Health Precautions – Bloating

Bloating… Why is it such a big deal?

As a dog owner, it’s crucial to be aware of potential health risks that your furry friend may face, such as bloating. Ignorance is not an option when it comes to your dog’s health. It’s your responsibility to understand the risks and take preventive measures. What can cause my dog issues? How can I prevent such situations? These are questions that every responsible dog owner should ask.

While many health risks can occur, such as:

  • Fleas and other bugs
  • Sprained or broken limbs.
  • Cuts and scrapes.
  • Diseases.
  • Parasites.

These concerns can be avoided.

One of the most effective ways to protect your dog’s health is by scheduling regular vet appointments. These visits ensure your dog receives the necessary shots and vaccines to ward off potential diseases and parasites and provide a sense of security about your dog’s overall health. Knowing that a professional is regularly checking on your dog’s health can be a comforting thought.

Second, owners should understand their dog’s dietary needs. With the right food plan, dogs can gain vital sources to boost their strength and immunity.

Now that we have a basic understanding of other health concerns let’s examine one of the most serious conditions: bloating.

This may take you by surprise, but dog bloating is one of the leading causes of quick, unexpected death. So, how does it happen? This unfortunate circumstance occurs when a dog plays too soon after eating. Ever heard of the 30-minute rest before going into the water? Well, it’s the same concept for dogs. When too much exercise occurs, the stomach begins to expand and eventually twists into a knot. If owners aren’t careful, this can be deadly to dogs.

Some signs to look for are:

  • Bloated stomach
  • Shallow, rapid breathing
  • Excessive drooling
  • Unproductive vomiting
  • Collapsing

The results of bloating sadly tie to a personal experience in my life. When I was in third grade, my family dog, Nestle, passed away from bloating. I had no clue about the cause of death until recently. Therefore, setting all the necessary precautions can save your dog’s life!

  • Serve several smaller meals throughout the day.
  • Don’t allow any rough playing after 30 minutes to 1 hour after eating.
